Mods to Traveler, Tom Kisko's Gemini 105Mc, No. 707
I purchased Traveler from the factory in November 2000. Here are some of the modifications that I have made to her:
Back to parent
- Simplified rope lift for drive leg (update), in up position, 1 pulley, lifts in one easy motion
- Sketch of updated leg lift system, new design does not use a bungee chord and a PVC pipe T-handle is added
- I used a bench vise to install new steering cables, btw the 105Mc gets a 19', not 18' as listed in version 1.0 of PCI's installation guide
- Xref chart I took a picture of at Uflex office in Sarasota, it might get you out of a pinch
- Added shelves in closet of rear cabin
- Junk holder under circuit breakers
- Freedom Marine 2000 watt charger/inverter (can run A/C or water heater), smaller inverters for low power use (less overhead), Link 2000 battery monitor, MityMite portable 12v source and emergency jump starter, vent holes let battery gases out
- Starter battery with $30 battery isolator from Auto Zone (upper left), Balmar ARS-4 charge controller for Balmar 90-75 alternator
- Drip diverter, sends rain drops from up-down line hole to rudder compartment, used a lid from a plastic shoe box, I plan to come up with something better, also see Latch covers below
- PVC pipe on standing rigging
- Radio Shack antenna wire sealing tape stopped my leaks
- Main sail track gate cannot fall out, ordered from Selden
- Mega Light 3300, 0.074 amps
- Tie the ends of you anchor lines to something, here I added a cleat in the anchor locker
- Compass cover ordered from West Marine
- Wash down pump in lazarette, I plan to add a pressure line to the anchor locker, note: I did not use a thru-hull, see next picture
- Wash down pump pickup
- Splash flap on bottom of shower door
- Using a boat hook as a whisker pole
- Simplified rope lift for drive leg, in up position, 1 pulley, lifts in one easy motion; this replaced the factory hydraulic system after my hydraulic line rusted out
- Simplified rope lift for drive leg, in down position, note bungee to keep lines out of prop
- Reverse lock using rope and a cam cleat; rope will break before yoke breaks; I disconnected the hard latch reverse lock; note 2nd line as a backup if 1st line breaks; watch for wear and tear; I upgraded to heavier line
- Reverse lock lines in up position
- Life vest storage in empty cavity of ceiling of aft cabins (of 105Mc)
- Use a bungee cord when Uflex cable breaks and will not "pull" rudder
- Solar panel mounts anywhere
- Back of solar panel has 1" starboard clamps
- Generator (Honda EU-2000) storage in sail locker; keeps gas away from engine and spark sources; added a small shelf and safety line to support it; I run it on foredeck, in a anchor locker if rough
- Microwave oven under dinette seat; Tony does this on some boats; very easy to install; recommend an oven with mechanical timer, not electronic
- Wider shelf on port side of master cabin
- Additional shelf on starboard side of master cabin; I may add doors
- TV/VCR with satellite receiver; a laptop PC on top is visible while steering
- Side gate, added stanchion (from Boat US), gate open
- Side gate, added stanchion (from Boat US), gate closed
- Feeder for roller furling
- Grommet protects life line on stern
- Support system gives full access to hulls for bottom job, used 2" styrofoam from Home Depot
- Hoop to make topping lift release and restore a snap, put hoop on cleat to lift, release when under sail
- Double hoops for lazy jack, one loose for sailing, one tight for sail support
- Satellite TV, works at dock, tied to mangroves or with 3 anchors in calm water and winds.
- Latch covers stop leaks, Perco#1089DP1BLK, West Marine #268427
- Fuel polishing system, generic fuel pump from Discount Auto Parts
- Galley shelving
- Magazine rack in back of the port dinette seat
- Drive leg release block, insurance against damage when shallow water motoring, you do lose reverse
- Main windshield sun shade
- Forward sun shade
- Sunshades from above
- TV antenna attached to back stay
- Locker engine mount
- A/C under port side dinette seat
- A/C duct, rotates to cool master berth and/or dinette
- Automatic shower pump
- Rod holders, note L shape support and the stop on top of the closet
- Dinette reading light
- Lifeline protector, cable cover from West Marine
- Winch handle storage
- Cockpit speaker
- Main salon speaker, also holds down bottle of rum
